The local bookshop didn't miss out on a sale because at $50 I wouldn't have bought the book at all.<br />The case of buying books in Australia is not like buying from Bunnings or Gloria Jeans, because Australian booksellers are restricted by legislation to buying overseas books at higher prices themselves. A restriction which doesn't apply in other industries. It has nothing to do with cultural imperialism.<br />To push the burden onto the consumer is a simplistic argument in the case of books. The Australian book-selling industry deserves to be supported but it must begin at a higher level.
